What you need to know about Medina silk...

For several years, I wondered what Medina silk is; this material is currently trendy in France. So I carried out my little investigation to find out a little more about this dreamy name.

What is Medina silk?

In recent years, we have seen more and more scarves with the name Medina silk. This material is sold as a luxurious material with the appearance of silk, but not the price. It is promoted as coming from Türkiye and is said to be of high quality.

In reality, this material is not made of silk, but of synthetic material such as polyester. It is therefore in no way a luxurious or high quality product as many stores can claim.

Some websites specify that it is indeed a synthetic material, but others remain unclear as to the composition.

“Medina silk hijab”

" 100% silk of Medina "

"Fabrics: silk from Medina"

Does silk really come from Medina?

The city of Medina is not one of the historic cities constituting “The Silk Road”. These scarves come from Türkiye or China. Its name is therefore misleading and in no way corresponds to reality. A silk scarf cannot be sold at the price of a synthetic scarf.
